My interests as an ancient historian are the politics, culture and society of the Roman Empire. My research has concentrated on the period from the mid 2nd century CE to the early 5th, and has covered a broad range of primary sources. My background is interdisciplinary, and I have worked with literary and documentary texts as well as art and construction.

Among specific topics that I have covered are, for instance, the Roman History of Cassius Dio, gold-glass bowls, building inscriptions, imperial monuments, and everything that concerns the reign of emperor Diocletian. My publications have tended to concern Rome the city or North Africa, but my interests encompass the entire Empire and beyond.
