Globalized Threads of Connection: Portuguese Material Culture
Tania Manuel Casimiro (University NOVA, Lisbon): Globalized Threads of Connection: Portuguese Material Culture
This lecture aims to promote the debate on how Portuguese material culture reflects the interconnected nature of the early modern world. By analyzing artefacts found across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, we uncover the stories of trade, cultural exchange, and adaptation they embody. These objects reveal how merchants, artisans, and consumers engaged with global networks, integrating diverse influences into everyday life. Through these tangible legacies, we will explore how material culture serves to understand the complexities of globalization in the past and its resonance in the present.
